Wonder how to get rich slow? Congrats – you’re at the right place. Read on to discover how relationship marketing will win you the battle of weirdness. Get ready to be remarkable!
#1 Dare to be different
These are times for creative people – entrepreneurs who dare to be different! The social web has ended the era of mass marketing. This is not the result of social media – it’s merely the result of a cultural revolution – the empowerment of individuality. These are the times that the TV industrial complex comes to an end (Seth Godin). Just watch how mobile communication returns the power to the people.
In the ‘old’ days of mass marketing, companies bought ads – made money – and bought more ads to fortify their market position. Those days are gone! Google ads alone – will not make you rich these days. The same goes for social media. Companies that use social media as yet another push channel to persuade people to buy their stuff are loosing ground. Know how to use social media – learn how to start the new relationship marketing and watch how it grows your business from the outside! #2 Give people a unique experience
Everybody can start a blog these days – and so can you. However, blogging alone won’t get you into business! You might think that driving traffic to your central hub is all about using the right keywords – and use them all over your site. Sure! But does it make you stand out from your competition?
What you need these days is weirdness. Understand that marketing is more than just selling a product. It’s all about customer experiences. Zappos’ success is one of the best examples. Get people to talk about you – not your products! It doesn’t matter if you’re a solo-preneur or a Fortune 100 company. Give people something to talk about.
What do people talk about? The unique experience – the extra’s they received without even expecting them. That’s one of the big secrets to Zappos’ success. Tony Hsieh put all the initial money in customer service and not in ads. What are we talking about when it comes to Zappos.com? Exactly! Great customer service. Everybody is talking about Zappos these days! Do they talk about shoes? No – they talk about the unique experience Zappos offers.
Be remarkable: make something that people can make a remark about! (Seth Godin)
#3 Join the Connection revolution
The social web has opened the doors for anyone to start their own business. You don’t need a lot of money to be a successful entrepreneur. You need to be revolutionary – dare to do the things that might frighten you the most: give away FREE stuff. Share your knowledge with others. Offer unique customer experiences. Give people something to share. And make sharing as easy as possible. IMO this explains Facebook’s success. Get the idea why Pinterest is growing so rapidly? Remarkable? Yes – Valued? – Yes! Easy sharing – Yes!
Let me give you another revolutionary example: Apple Computer Co. Valued $5,309 in January 1977 – four years later it was valued $1.79 billion. Yes, billion. You know how Jobs, Wozniak and Markkula did it? They built something completely new – they dared to be different – especially Steve Jobs.
A remarkable product alone will not get you a lot of business. You need people to talk about it and share it with their friends! Not by pushing your messages out! You’re no longer in control! Understand how the virological approach will get you business. Remember – viruses spread by sneezing! Content spreads by sharing. Sharing virally!
Connect with powerful sneezers on the social web. This can be done via guest blogging on major platforms, connecting with influential people on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or Pinterest. Focus on the relationships first – give without expecting anything in return – keep doing it! One day you’ll wake up to notice people are talking about you. Make sure you have your social monitoring tools set in place!
